Yona Guam
The village of Yona derived its name from the word iyo-na, which means to possess something material. People visiting Yona, known then as As Misen, would ask who owns such a beautiful place, and the people would answer, “iyo-na,” we do. The village is located on the southeastern side of Guam situated on a plateau overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Part of the Southern District, Yona is well-known to locals because of Manengon, the infamous concentration camp where the Japanese imprisoned Chamorros before the American invasion.
