Mangilao Guam

The origin of Mangilao is derived from llao, which means to search for something that tastes good, such as crab, fish, deer, and pigs.  The village is located on the central eastern part of the island and makes up about 9% of the population on Guam, and has become the mecca of higher education, with the University of Guam, Guam Community College, and Guam’s only public television station situated there, as well as several prominent public and private high schools.  The Guam Department of Agriculture, the Department of Public Health and Social Services, the Prison Facilities for adults and youth, and a host of non-profit organizations also make Mangilao home.  Within the village is also a 300 seat church which honors the village’s patron saint, Santa Teresita.
